Film Review - Kill Bill

Film Review

Kill Bill is a 2003 American film starring Uma Thurman. Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino, it was originally filmed as a single production along with the second installment, which was then released the next year. The first film revolves around The Bride awaking from her four-year coma and seeking revenge on the team of assassins who attempted to murder her and her unborn child.

First she tracks down O-Ren Ishii, the leader of the Japanese Yakuza. When O-Ren is introduced there is an ultraviolent Japanese style anime scene about her past. This sequence really sets the tone for O-Ren's character, as a ruthless and vengeful "queen of the Tokyo underworld" Tarantino himself said that the scene was inspired by an Indian psychological thriller called 'Aalavanhan',which is about a police officer who has to protect his fiance from his mentally deranged brother as he thinks she is their evil stepmother.

This film has been nominated for multiple awards and has won seven. Uma Thurman won two awards for 'best actress', one for 'best fight' with supporting actress, Lucy Liu, who also won an award for 'best villain'. Tarantino won an award for best director.
